The Treatment

Treatment

The treatment will start with Amy taking a full case history of the animal, and asking a series of questions in order to build a complete picture of the animals' history, workload and temperament. At this stage Amy will complete a static and dynamic conformation analysis. The treatment then moves onto a series of stretches and musculoskeletal manipulation to determine muscle wastage, subluxations and nerve impingements. These stretches are in themselves a treatment and relieve many common problems. Amy will then work on any problem areas that have been highlighted using soft tissue manipulation and a series of refined, high speed adjustment techniques.

After Treatment

Horses will need 24-48 hours rest after treatment to allow the muscles of the body to recover and relax. It is preferable but not essential that horses are turned out and allowed to walk off any stiffness that occurs through treatment during the rest period. The results of a treatment are unlikely to be instantaneous. The treatment works to allow the body to realign itself, therefore improvements and changes within the body occur up to 10 days after treatment.

Many chronic problems can be built up over a number of years and therefore have resulted in animals moving in a compensatory way over a long period of time and as a direct result uneven muscle development occurs (atrophy or hypertrophy). Unfortunately these types of problems will often not be alleviated with one treatment. In these cases Amy will explain the issues to the client and will suggest the frequency of treatments needed and provide remedial exercises for the client to carry out between sessions. These remedial exercises will work to prevent the reoccurrence of a problem.
